hen you see the same people walking to classes or get yourself in a rut studying at the same table in the library, you may feel the need to change things up. Considering the importance we place upon fueling our bodies for late-night study sessions and keeping in shape, your food should never be something that bores you.
SGA President Kevin Hubbard ’11 and Faheem Rathore ’12 feel the same—this is why the two have worked together, along with Dining Services, to bring the students of Davidson new meal options in the Union
As of recently, the Union Café will now be providing their Southwest Grill options for dinner, switching between those delicious tacos, burritos and nachos with the traditional Italian pastas every other night. This change was agreed upon by Dee Phillips, head of Dining Services on campus.
Initially, the proposal wished simply to extend the Southwest Grill throughout the day and into dinner, and to keep it alongside the pasta courses to offer more variety for dinner plates. Due to a lack of labor at the current time, however, this seemed impossible. Phillips, Hubbard and Rathore had to get creative.
Our current student government, who cites variety as an important part of our dining experiences, has also welcomed this change. Alternating these meals will also help promote the Southwest Grill, as many students have already expressed that they were unaware of these new Mexican-style foods until the choices appeared on the new colored pads at the Union.
At Davidson, the student’s choice is always the most important; the general purpose of offering more options is to gauge reactions and popularity with these new dishes.
“Dee is very receptive to any changes or new foods students would like to have at Commons,” said Hubbard, who remains excited about this change for the student body. “Feel free to let myself, Faheem or Dining services know any helpful suggestions you may have on anything involving Commons or the Union.”
So get out, try something new and let your class representatives know how you feel!
