March 12 and 13, the Women’s Leadership Conference will convene at Davidson. Focused on this year’s theme, “Empowerment,” the conference will open Friday night with dinner, a reception, speaker and a performance from the Delilah’s.
The conference continues into Saturday, where participants will start with ice-breakers, then move to various breakout sessions for the day, which concludes with a “tea time” and closing speaker.
Participants should expect “some really great women who really know what they’re talking about,” co-chair Amanda Whitton ’10 said. “The breakout sessions are centered around various themes—we have physical empowerment, women leading women, women in the workplace, that kind of thing. These are all led by various members of the community who specialize in these areas and want to share what they know with the women around them!”
Saturday’s breakout sessions are intended to delve into issues of women’s empowerment.
“They are going to work with various areas of professional and daily life that women are constantly faced with and expound upon various things these involve,” Whitton said. “There’s a session on giving a good presentation, on taking care of your body, on co-leading with a man. It’s all very interesting and relevant to the women of today.”
Whitton also said that she hopes the experience will hold something for everyone.
“There are so many great people speaking and so many more great people coming that it’s nearly impossible for someone to walk away without gaining something,” she said. “Whether it’s a new skill for the work place or a new friend in an area that interests you, there really is something for everyone at this event. I want to make sure that people get what they came to find!”
The Women’s Leadership Conference is an annual event. If interested in helping to plan next year’s conference, please contact Amanda Whitton or Christie Mason.
