Davidson hosted Belmont Abbey and Anderson University in Belk Arena on Friday night. Not only did Davidson capture two victories, they did it in an exciting clutch fashion. Charlie Wolff ’11 anchored in both matches and captured the final bouts twice straight, to put Davidson in the lead and secured the win. Against Anderson and Belmont Abbey, Davidson was down 22-20 and 20-19 respectively when Wolff came in to pull out the come-from-behind victory and save the game. Alex Radsky ’11, Vitaly Radsky ’11, and Carl Sandercock ’10 all won by falls in their matches.
In the match versus Anderson, Ben Altmann ’10 opened the match with an 18-2 technical fall followed by pins by the Radsky twins. Davidson led 17-0 at this point. Anderson rallied back with a win at the 149 pound mark and a major decision at 157 pounds to gain seven points. Tyler Mullen ’12 extended the Davidson lead 20-7 with a 7-6 decision over Trevor Sanford. Seizing the lead, Anderson captured a win at 174, 184 and 197 pound marks. Wolff assured the win with the final bout 23-22 victory for Davidson.
Despite Matt Zarth ’13 losing in a sudden victory at 125 pounds, Davidson took control of the match early versus Belmont Abbey with an Alex Radsky ’11 8-4 decision, a pin by Vitaly Radsky ’11 and a pin by Carl Sandercock ’10 to put Davidson up 15-3.
After Belmont Abbey brought the match within three, Jorge Estrada ’12 earned his first career dual win by a score of 11-4 extending the Davidson lead to 19-12. Then, Davidson dropped at 184 pounds and 197 pounds giving Belmont Abbey the 20-19 edge. Wolff saved the day again with a victory to give Davidson the 23-20 win.
Davidson increased their record to 4-14. Davidson wrestling will face off against NC State and Campbell in Buries Creek, NC then will wrap up their regular season at Belk Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m. versus Duquesne.
